In the void of national climate legislation, locals lead the way – The Boston Globe

“Our current situation is different, and yet in some respects it’s the same,” said Barrett. “What we’re doing in Massachusetts becomes all the more important as the odds go longer around significant national action.”

While in Glasgow, Barrett said that in addition to speaking on a panel about pricing carbon emissions, he expected to talk with legislators from Eastern Europe, the United Kingdom, even China, Russia, and Australia, where national climate efforts have not been enough to meet the climate crisis.

Visited Plug Power Inc.’s R&D headquarters in Concord last week. Plug Power commercializes green hydrogen — hydrogen produced from clean energy like wind or solar. A Plug Power electrolyzer (one is shown on the right) draws on a clean electricity source like wind or solar to split water into oxygen and hydrogen molecules. Once separated, the hydrogen can be maintained and transported as either a gas or a liquid and used as a fuel, effectively acting as long-duration storage of the original clean energy.
