As a stand-alone bill An Act Relative to Energy Savings Efficiency (S.2478) updates the state’s appliance standards to improve energy and water efficiency standards for common household and commercial appliances. This helps to conserve energy use broadly, and save consumers and businesses money. Currently, the Trump administration is attempting to rollback federal energy efficiency standards for products such as light bulbs; this bill would effectively counteract that.
The primary architects of the bills included Senate President Karen Spilka (D-Ashland), Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy Michael Barrett (D-Lexington), and Senate Ways & Means Committee Chair Michael Rodrigues (D-Westport).
